Scenting your home the natural way

Scenting your home the natural way

I'm going to be sharing a little series of blog posts this December on how to scent your home naturally.
The importance of scent is a biggy for me & winter can be well... long & cold.
I've always felt this overbearing dread when the summer is ending as winter hasn't often felt like my friend.
But.... I've been feeling a bit of a shift this year. Ok so I've got some really good thermals! But I am finding myself stepping into & embracing the small detail a bit more.
The little rituals, such as candles (the hygge cosy light); the fire.. omg the fire & creating some seasonal scents are all helping to evoke the good & positive elements of the winter months woop!

Here is very simple way to naturally scent you home.

It only involves two ingredients and is perfect for popping in drawers, airing cupboards and shoe storage areas as it’s there is no risk of breakages or spillages.

Rice is amazing for absorbing moisture & I had some very old arborio rice in my cupboard which worked a treat.

Any rice will work.

I tend to save little cloth bags like this one but you could sew a little bag / square or even easier, place your scented rice in the middle of a square of fabric, gather & tie with an elastic band or some string - done!

I’ve used about 30 drops in this blend of essential oils: cedar wood (10), black pepper (5), coriander (5) & rose geranium (10).

Use what you have. I think essential oils can work just as beautifully on their own - you can’t beat straight up lavender or geranium to uplift & refresh your space.

Here are a some blends that work well together & as its winter a few festive blends.

 Wintery festive blends

🌿 Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Pine

🌿 Frankincense, Rose Geranium, Bergamot, Black pepper

 Uplifting blends

🌿 Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium

🌿 Grapefruit, Petitgrain, Rose Geranium

Top up your rice with your essential oil blend every week.

Happy homes x
